Founders_ProfileThangjam Joykumar Singh, a resident of Chingmeirong East, Imphal, was born on 1st March 1960 to Thangjam Birachandra Singh and Thangjam Ongbi Maipakpi Devi. He was the seventh child in the family with seven brothers and three sisters.

Joykumar graduated in Business Management (Mysore University 1981) and post graduated with a Master’s Degree in Economics (Specialised in Regional Planning and Economic Growth) from Bhopal University, 1983.

After completing his education, Joykumar returned home to start his own venture. He was inspired by the scope and potential of the abundant natural resources available in the state and in 1991 started Thangjam Agro Industries with a term loan from Manipur Industrial Development Co-Operation (MANIDCO) and Imphal Urban Co-Operative Bank. He started manufacturing a large range of foods and beverages under his flagship brand “Likla”.

In 2010 the Chamber of Small Industry Association (COSIA) presented the Entrepreneurship Appreciation Award to Joykumar in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the Indian Economy through the MSME Sector. In February 2010, The All Manipur Art and Culture Sports Development Society awarded the Best Food Product Award to the Company. In 2012 Joykumar was conferred the prestigious Governors Trophy for Best Entrepreneur by All Manipur Entrepreneurs Association (AMEA). Panthoibi Cultural Research Centre awarded Joykumar the North East Regional Award 2012 in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of human services and skill development. North East Biography Forum also awarded the Certificate of Honour to Joykumar in 2013.

Joykumar is also an active member of Lions Clubs International (Home Club: Imphal Greater) and has served as the Club’s President, Zone Chairperson, District Chairperson and Region Chairperson in the past. He is also a member of All Manipur Entrepreneur Association (AMEA), All Manipur Food Preservers Association, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (Manipur Chapter).
