Like any developing state, Manipur is also facing the drawbacks of development such as atmospheric pollution, soil erosion, and many more, causing varieties of discomfort and inconvenience not only for the people but also for other living beings. Although known for its greenery and beautiful hills which surrounds the state, Manipur has been losing most of what its natural ecosystem was.
As a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, Thangjam Agro (Likla) takes part in bringing back nature by organizing an annual tree plantation programme on every 5th of June i.e., the World Environment Day, in association with the Forest department Manipur. This event is held every year in different districts of the state and also inside the company’s property planting over 100 saplings of different varieties (fruits, flowers, medicinal plants, etc.). We also nurture and nourish the saplings, helping them grow into trees. Employees and members of the community collaborated to dig holes, plant trees, and then spread manure around the base of the trees to provide additional support and help retain moisture. Along with the trees, the teams placed sign boards indicating the species and the team that planted them.
The last tree plantation programme was held at MMTA Complex, Lamdan, Churachandpur District, where the volunteers passionately participated and planted more than 100 saplings of different varieties during the event. The volunteers were so ecstatic to be a part of something bigger than themselves, and it provided an excellent opportunity for them to connect with the nature and community, giving back to the environment. As a responsible organization, we recognize the importance of ecological sustainability and strive to have a positive impact in the communities in which we operate. We believe that by collaborating, we can make a difference in the fight against climate change and in the preservation of our planet for future generations.
